The Lohja City Orchestra

The Lohja City Orchestra was founded in 1964.The orchestra's operating potential was greatly enhanced with the completion of the Laurentius Hall in 1983. In the Spring 1999 the Lohja Orchestra changed its name to the Lohja City Orchestra. The orchestra performs in various combinations, as chamber orchestra, string- and wind quintet or as symphony orchestra. Symphonies, large-scale vocal works, opera music church- and light music are regular items on the program. The Lohja City Orchestra works regularly with Finnish leading choirs like Cantores Minores and Dominante in major choral works.

The orchestra has made guest performances at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, the Helsinki Arena and it has collaborated with famous operatic stars like José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Il Divo- ensemble. It has performed with tenor Roland Villazon at the Music Center in Helsinki, with The Three Sopranos in Turku, Tampere Music Center and the Finlandia Hall. In 2017 and 2019 the orchestra accompanied Andrea Bocelli in sold-out concerts at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki.

The Lohja orchestra works as a regional orchestra in southern Finland and collaborates with several municipal cultural divisions providing music for the elderly, children and young people on a regular basis. The Finnish Talouselämä economy magazine elected the orchestra  Best collaborator in 2015.
