Leena Jaakkola

 

Leena Jaakkola first started playing the violin as sixyear old at the music institute in Kerava for Erkki Palola.
She continued at the youth department of the Sibelius Academy with Seppo Tukiainen, Mari Tampere-Bezrodny and later Petri Aarnio. Leena completed her studies in Switzerland at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste under Rudolf Koelman, and graduated with excellent Master degrees from both Zurich and Helsinki. She has participated in master classes with Hagai Shaham, Gerhard Schultz, Tuomas Haapanen and Mi-Kyung Lee. As a dedicated chamber musician, she regularly performs at festivals in Finland and abroad. She has performed as soloist with the Zurich ZHDK – and Musica di Parma chamber orchestras, and she got 1. prize as member of a piano trio at the Kiwani chamber music competition in Switzerland. She has been member of Tampere Philharmonic, but since 2016 she plays 1. violin in the FRSO (Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra). She plays on a Gioffredo Cappa violin from 1690.
