Eriikka Nylund

Eriikka Nylund is an active orchestra- and chamber musician who performs in the Nordic countries and around the world. She began studying the violin at the age of five in her hometown of Kotka. Ten years later, she switched to the viola and enrolled at the Sibelius Academy, where she studied under Teemu Kupiainen. She continued her studies in Salzburg and Basel under Thomas Riebl and Hatto Beyerle. Nylund was a member of the Meta4 string quartet from 2000 to 2006, during which time the quartet won first prize at the Dimitri Shostakovich Competition in Moscow. In 2001, she won first prize at the Nordic Viola Competition in Helsinki. Since 2007, Nylund has worked as principal viola player with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

She has also performed frequently as a soloist with her orchestra, premiering many contemporary works. Nylund has also served as principal violist with the Finnish National Opera and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. She plays on a Cerruti viola owned by the Järnåker Foundation.
