Mikko Helenius

The Sibelius Academy graduate, cantor, tango and bandoneon virtuoso has composed and arranged a wealth of church music and music for several documentary films, among others. Mikko Helenius has made a name for himself beyond the borders of our country, studying composition in Paris with Gustavo Beytelmann, playing bandoneon in film and contemporary music projects in France, and recording and touring with the Swiss band Estufa Caliente. In Finland, Mikko Helenius has played in the Bandola Orchestra and, together with Antero Jakoila, founded the Mástango Ensemble, which has given concerts and festival performances in Finland and several other countries. Mikko Helenius is a world-class bandoneonist, pianist, organist, composer, arranger and singer who has performed with many well-known Finnish artists such as Tapani Kansa, Arja Saijonmaa and Anneli Sari. Helenius and the famous singer Martín Alvarado have worked together for almost two decades, performing throughout Finland, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Russia, Italy and the USA, and recording an album to be released this year.
