The Finnish Chamber Choir
The Finnish Chamber Choir brings together experienced choral singers and music professionals to create good music together a few times a year. The choir started its activities in 1984 and was active until the early 1990s, when conductor Eric-Olof Söderström moved to become the chorus master of the Finnish National Opera. After Söderström left the National Opera, he restarted the choir’s activities in 2008 with a concert featuring J.S. Bach’s motets. These works have been part of the choir’s core repertoire from the beginning.
The choir’s repertoire is Western art music from various eras. In recent years, concerts have featured works by J.S. Bach, Johannes Brahms, Camille Saint-Saëns, Jean Gilles, Gabriel Fauré, Heinrich Schütz, as well as Eero Sipilä and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi. The choir has performed successfully both domestically and internationally, gaining fame by winning the EBU’s Let the Peoples Sing Chamber Choir competition.
In 2025, the Finnish Chamber Choir will celebrate its 40th anniversary with music by J.S. Bach, Arvo Pärt, Joseph Haydn, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
