Niilo Erkkilä
The tenor Niilo Erkkilä started singing in the choir Cantores Minores at the age of 10. Since then classical vocal music has been a big part of his life. He is still studying for his Master’s degree in Vocal Art at the Sibelius Academy under Rabbe Österholm’s leadership. His previous teachers include Hannu Niemelä and Aki Alamikkotervo. Erkkilä has performed as a soloist in several sacred works, a o singing the part of the evangelist in J. S. Bach’s St. Matthew and St. John Passion and the Christmas oratorio. He has performed as a soloist with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra, the Lojo and Vasa City Orchestras and the Rakuuna orchestra. His operatic roles include Monostatos (W. A. Mozart:The magic flute) and Podestà (Mozart: La Finta Giardiniera).
Erkkilä is an experienced ensemble singer and an active member of the Helsinki Chamber Choir and other professional vocal ensembles which have been rewarded with Grammy and Emma Prizes for their performances. He is a member of the chorus at Savonlinna Opera Festival and the Finnish National Opera.
In his leisure time he likes long walks, to solve crosswords and to watch NHL game results over the morning coffee.
