Liisa Malmivaara
Pianist Liisa Malmivaara began her studies at the Porvoo Music Institute under Brita-Liisa Johansson. She completed her master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy under Hui-Ying Tawaststjerna (2004). Malmivaara has also studied at the Royal Conservatory in Copenhagen under José Ribera, at the Sweelinck Conservatory (Music Post graduate 2000) under Naum Grubert and chamber music with Ralf Gothóni. She has participated in masterclasses with Liisa Pohjola, Emanuel Krasovsky, Murray Perahia and Fou Ts’ong. Liisa Malmivaara has won prizes at the Kil International Piano Competition 1992 (Sweden) and the Nyborg Nordic Piano Competition 2000 (Denmark). She has performed at the Josef Hofmann Festival in Poland, the Pianoaura Festival, Lemi, Mänttä and Nurmes Music festivals, KuruFest and Kaakko Chamber Music.
Liisa Malmivaara was principal teacher of piano at the Turku Conservatory 2003-2016. She currently teaches piano and chamber music at the Helsinki Conservatory and the Sibelius Academy. In addition to teaching, she plays chamber music in various ensembles and works as a pianist at the Violin Academy in Porvoo.
