Eero Palviainen

When the young, then guitarist, Eero Palviainen some 30 years ago held a baroque lute for the first time in his hands, he immediately fell in love with the instrument and its beautiful sound. Shortly after, he started his studies at the Turku Conservatory, and subsequently continued with Leif Karlsson at the Sibelius Academy. He studied with Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel (1987-1992). His career has since taken him around the world as member of several musical ensembles and as a soloist. Palviainen has many CD recordings. His repertoire extends from renaissance to baroque and he plays several instruments: the renaissance lute, vihuela, archlute, theorbo, baroque guitar and baroque lute. At the moment he plays with ensembles like L´Arpeggiata (France), Arte Suonatore Posnan (Poland), Battalia, Finnish Baroque Orchestra and Helsinki Baroque Orchestra. He is frequently a guest artist with chamber orchestra Avanti!, The Harp Consort, Freiburger Barock Orchester and Ensemble La Fenice. Eero Palviainen is also himself known as an instrument maker.
